The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) supports UCLA's community of educators in engaging in inclusive and research-based teaching practices in support of diverse learners, advancing instructional innovation and pedagogical research, and celebrating teaching excellence. To realize this mission, the TLC collaborates with instructors, leadership, and various campus partners to champion visionary ideas and forward-thinking initiatives that transform and elevate the teaching enterprise. Position Summary
The UCLA Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) is seeking an AI Specialist for Teaching and Learning (Instructional Designer 3). This individual will serve as an expert on the intersection of AI technologies and teaching and learning to facilitate the exploration, testing, and instructor training on impactful AI-enabled instructional practices for teaching and course design.
This role will advance the applied integration of AI tools across UCLA, with particular attention to accessibility, inclusion, and a range of discipline-specific needs. The AI Specialist will collaborate with campus partners, particularly Academic Technology groups in Digital and Technology Solutions (DTS) and the UCLA Library, to pilot and evaluate AI tools, research and develop service models aligned with instructor needs, and support implementation of AI initiatives in conformance with strategic priorities established by the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning. This role advances UCLA’s commitment to inclusive excellence by helping educators adopt equity-minded, research-informed, and innovative instructional approaches, playing a key part in shaping how AI is thoughtfully and responsibly integrated into teaching and learning at UCLA. This position reports to the Senior Advisor to the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning for Digital Accessibility.
Candidates must reside in the State of California by their first day of employment and must work on the UCLA campus at least three days per week. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $90,000 - $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Salary & Compensation
*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. - 5 yrs of Experience Minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in AI, instructional design, educational technology, information technology, or a related professional area. (Required)

- Demonstrated experience supporting AI in educational or complex digital environments. (Required)
- Strong communication and consultation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with instructors and technical stakeholders. (Required)
- Demonstrated ability to explain technical AI and accessibility concepts to non-technical audiences. (Required)
- Demonstrated knowledge of learning theory and evidence-based instructional practices in postsecondary settings. (Required)
- Knowledge of Canvas and/or other LMS systems. (Preferred)
- Experience working in higher education (Preferred)
- Specialized expertise in AI applications in STEM disciplines, including math, science, data visualization, or coding environments. (Preferred)
- Experience delivering educational and/or professional development or training for faculty or staff. (Preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and assess emerging AI tools and technologies for instructional use, including consideration of accessibility, equity, and pedagogical effectiveness. (Required)
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional campus partners (e.g., Digital and Technology Solutions (DTS) and the UCLA Library) to design, pilot, and implement instructional or technology initiatives. (Required)
- Ability to develop and scale service models, resources, or programs that support faculty adoption of instructional technologies aligned with institutional priorities. (Preferred)
