The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Junior Thumbnail Designer to join our Melbourne-based studios, where you’ll collaborate closely with our global creative team crafting eye-catching, high-performing thumbnails across our gaming YouTube channels. This role offers hands-on training and mentorship from some of the best & most knowledgeable in the industry, giving you the chance to learn what drives success on YouTube. It’s an ideal opportunity for someone with a creative or design background who understands Minecraft—particularly building models—and is eager to turn that passion into a career in digital content.

Your Responsibilities and Skills

Thumbnail Creation -

•

Thumbnail Conceptualisation: Collaborate with content creators to develop creative concepts for thumbnails that effectively convey the content and message of the video.

•

Visual Design: Utilise graphic design software to create visually engaging thumbnails optimised for various devices and screen sizes.

•

Model Design: Create and use Custom Minecraft models for use in thumbnails and alter them based on feedback

•

Image Selection and Enhancement: Select compelling images from video footage or photoshoots and enhance them as needed to create eye-catching thumbnails.

•

Text Integration: Incorporate legible text elements such as titles, captions, and call-to-action phrases into thumbnail designs.

•

Brand Consistency: Ensure consistency with the channel's branding guidelines, including colour schemes, fonts, and logo placement, to maintain brand identity.

•

Testing and Optimisation: Conduct A/B testing of different thumbnail designs to identify optimal performance in terms of click-through rate (CTR) and viewer engagement.

Other -

•

Trend Awareness: Stay up to date with current trends and best practices in thumbnail design and YouTube optimisation.

•

Collaborative Approach: Collaborate closely with content creators, videographers, and editors to ensure thumbnails accurately represent video content.

•

Feedback Implementation: Efficiently implement feedback from the team, iterating on designs to align with branding and content objectives.

•

Coordination with Packaging Team: Coordinate with the packaging team to ensure thumbnail designs align with overall branding and packaging strategies.

•

Team Communication: Share ideas, feedback, and assets with team members to collectively contribute to the success of thumbnail designs, utilising communication tools such as Monday.com and Discord.

•

Time Management: Manage time effectively to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality thumbnails in a timely manner.

Requirements

•

Ability to showcase a portfolio of design work & evidence of Minecraft proficiency.

•

Have a basic understanding of visual design principles for thumbnails and demonstrable enthusiasm for the creator economy.

•

Ability to photo-manipulate and make changes in Photoshop to test, elements, etc

•

Possess strong communication skills and accountability when working with team members.

•

Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changes when necessary.

•

Able to understand and implement feedback to improve thumbnail quality.

•

Strong affinity and willingness to learn, take on feedback, and improve in a fast moving environment.
