Job description
Procurement & Logistics Officer will be responsible for managing end-to-end procurement and importation activities for equipment, spare parts, consumables, and technical materials sourced from international suppliers. The role will oversee supplier engagement, negotiation, shipping arrangements, customs documentation, freight forwarding, clearing processes, regulatory compliance, and final delivery to designated locations within Nigeria and other locations The successful candidate will ensure timely delivery, cost optimization, compliance with relevant import regulations, and efficient coordination among suppliers, freight forwarders, customs agents, banks, and internal stakeholders. international markets. This is a hands-on operational role for someone who thrives on detail, follow-through, and solving problems before they become delays. Key Responsibilities 1. Import Coordination Liaise with overseas suppliers and freight forwarders to schedule and coordinate shipments (sea and air freight) Track shipments end-to-end from dispatch to arrival; proactively flag delays, risks, or issues before they escalate Negotiate freight rates and select clearing/forwarding agents Maintain a live shipment tracker covering status, ETA, and cost for every consignment in transit 2. Documentation & Compliance Prepare and verify import documentation: invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin Manage the customs clearance process with Nigerian Customs and clearing agents Ensure compliance with NAFDAC, SON, or other regulatory requirements where applicable to the goods being imported Maintain accurate, audit-ready records of duties, levies, and clearing costs for every shipment 3. Logistics & Delivery Coordinate last-mile delivery of goods and equipment to client sites across Nigeria Manage relationships with local transporters and dispatch partners Resolve delivery issues — damage, delay, discrepancy — quickly, professionally, and with clear client communication 4. Reporting & Cost Control Track and report landed cost per shipment (goods cost + freight + duties + clearing fees) Maintain shipment status reports for management review Identify and recommend cost-saving opportunities in freight selection and customs clearing 5.Procurement & Supplier Management Source and evaluate international suppliers and OEMs. Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, warranties, and commercial terms. Manage RFQs, purchase orders, and supplier contracts. Develop strategic relationships with OEMs and international vendors. Requirements Person Specification 3–6 years of experience in import/export operations, freight forwarding, or supply chain management in Nigeria Working knowledge of Nigerian customs procedures, tariff classification, and import documentation Existing relationships with clearing agents and/or freight forwarders is a strong advantage Comfortable working in Excel for shipment tracking, cost calculation, and reporting Calm under pressure — customs delays and shipping disruptions are routine in this role, and we need someone who solves problems rather than escalates them High integrity and financial discipline — this role involves handling duties and clearing fees with significant autonomy A Note on Integrity This role carries real financial responsibility: clearing fees, duties, and agent payments often need to move quickly, with limited real-time oversight.
