Mechanical Planner - Maintenance

Job Description
-Plan preventive, predictive, breakdown, condition-based, shutdown, and corrective maintenance schedules for mechanical systems and equipment.
-Prepare work orders, spare parts requirements, and maintenance documentation in coordination with the engineering and operations teams.
-Coordinate with production, utilities, electrical, purchasing, stores, safety, reliability, and maintenance teams to align maintenance plans with plant priorities.
-Lead the planning, scheduling, and resource coordination of equipment improvement, modification, and redesign activities, including minor projects and reliability initiatives, ensuring work readiness, material availability, manpower allocation, and integration with maintenance and production plans
-Support maintenance activities across different plants or areas, including planning, coordination, and scheduling of centralized or shared-service initiatives for standardized mechanical equipment, promoting best practices, technical consistency, and efficient use of internal resources.
-Authorize routine maintenance activities and control shift-level documentation to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
-Guide technicians in correct documentation, reporting, and job feedback practices.
-Track completed work orders, reports, and mechanical maintenance records to verify compliance with procedures and performance standards.
-Ensure maintenance activities meet safety, quality, and reliability requirements as per iso standards.
-Ensure accurate and timely maintenance planning data in SAP, including work orders, task lists, materials, and maintenance plans. Maintain data integrity to support reliable scheduling, backlog management, and continuous optimization of preventive maintenance plans.
-Report weekly, monthly, and annual planning KPIs, maintenance backlogs, and performance trends to management.
-Highlight opportunities for improvement in maintenance planning, resource allocation, and process efficiency.
-Provide planning-based input to support maintenance cost analysis, resource allocation decisions, and continuous improvement initiatives, using SAP data and planning metrics to identify efficiency and optimization opportunities. -Optimize maintenance resource utilization and cost efficiency through effective planning, balancing internal labor, contractors, materials, and equipment availability, and supporting cost control, budget adherence, and maintenance cost optimization initiatives.
-Conduct quality inspection of received mechanical goods, spares, and consumables to ensure specification compliance.
-Prepare technical evaluations and recommendations for purchase of materials, tools, and spare parts as per company policy.
Required qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering fields such as Mechanical, Mechanical Maintenance, Industrial or related fields. Preferred experience:
- Diploma: Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in steel or heavy industry operations including at least 4 years of mechanical maintenance planning in rolling mills or similar and 2 years supervisory role.
- Bachelor’s Degree: Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in steel industry or heavy industry operations including at least 2 years of mechanical maintenance planning in rolling mills or similar and minimum of 2 year supervisory role.
- Practical exposure to weekly down-day planning, annual shutdown preparation, and coordination of spares, contractors, and services for mechanical maintenance.
- Prior exposure to SAP or CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- Exposure to KPI tracking, energy monitoring, testing instruments, and automation systems.
Job-specific skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, preventive maintenance concepts, and maintenance planning tools and methodologies.
- Ability to assess condition and usage of major mechanical spares, support timely preparation of purchase requests, and arrange & plan replacements effectively.
- Competence in work order systems, spare parts management, and reporting.
