We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Group Vice President on our Center for Optimal Health Outcome team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.
This role will lead the strategic evolution and practical implementation of AMA’s commitment to shaping optimal health outcomes efforts, integrating clinical, public health and societal perspectives and approaches for improving health outcomes and health care disparities. Responsible for building the AMA’s strategy and driving optimal health outcomes forward at the AMA. Responsible for leveraging and consulting with multiple external and internal stakeholders, to improve outcomes and eliminate disparities. The GVP Optimal Health Outcomes is integral in strategic planning for the AMA and participates in the senior management group, to support all AMA organizational goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Optimal Health Outcomes Strategy
- Participate in the strategic planning with Senior Management and use this input to guide the development of the annual optimal health outcomes goals
- Elevate and drive the AMA’s leadership and eminence in the optimal health outcomes domain
- Propose new programs, deliver new tools or resources, or create gap initiatives to achieve results, build rigorous objectives, outcome expectations, budgets, timelines and metrics
- Articulate a comprehensive picture of AMA health policy related to optimal health outcomes, goals and efforts across mission areas and other AMA units to find opportunities for collaboration across the AMA
- Responsible for growing awareness and the evidence -based research on optimal health outcomes through written reports and the peer reviewed literature
Identify and Manage Relationships with Internal and External Collaborators
- Represent AMA in conjunction with other key executive leaders; serve as the AMA’s health outcomes expert to build effective external collaborations and partnerships to achieve optimal health outcomes goals
- Collaborate with other organizations and leaders in the field and convene meetings to bring this work to the forefront
- Collaborate with Senior Management to build awareness across the organization and be a resource to leaders as they develop unit goals and initiatives
- Consult with external partners to drive the optimal health outcomes strategy
Staff & Budget Management
- Build a strong team to drive optimal health outcomes initiatives and new programs forward; translate strategy into clear priorities, programs, and goals for the team
- Lead, mentor and provide management oversight for professional staff; responsible for setting objectives, evaluating performance and developing staff
- Direct and oversee the units financial and budgetary activities in alignment with AMA objectives; the administration of the center and its processes should conform with AMA policies, procedures, and practices
May include other responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
MD, DO, or PhD preferred, additional degree in public health, health policy, or management desirable; experience in clinical and personnel management roles preferred
15+ years’ experience implementing and evaluating optimal health outcomes initiatives
10+ years’ experience in people management; able to mentor and develop staff to achieve desired results
Evidence of broad expertise about and commitment to addressing health disparities and achieving optimal health outcomes with national or international recognition and standing in the field
Proven experience building and implementing long-term strategic plans to achieve desired goals, driven by defined metrics
Excellent speaking and writing ability required, including record of presentations, and peer-reviewed publication
Highly credible with senior executives while also able to connect and build trust-based relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of an organization
Travel required with substantial external representation of outcomes work and the broader AMA.
