We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Senior Vice President, Digital Health and AI on our Digital Health and AI team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 d ays a week in the office.

The Chief Digital and AI Officer (CDAO) will lead the American Medical Association’s newly launched Center for Digital Health and AI. This role will drive enterprise-wide health care technology strategy, oversee center infrastructure, and guide AMA’s engagement with health technology leaders to advance the AMA mission and support responsible, physician-led innovation of digital health and AI. This role will oversee the AMA Center for Digital Health and AI, advancing its core pillars of workforce education, partnerships & engagement, practice transformation & integration, and policy & regulatory affairs. The CDAO will serve as a senior leader and will position the AMA at the forefront of digital health and AI policy, partnerships, and practice transformation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and lead AMA’s enterprise-wide digital health and AI strategy, aligning with the organization’s mission to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health.
  • Anticipate and shape market, policy, and regulatory trends in AI and digital health to advance AMA’s thought leadership.
  • Champion physician-led innovation and ensure physician needs drive technology design, development, implementation, and adoption.
  • Provide visionary leadership to position AMA as a trusted national voice on the governance, ethics, and responsible use of AI in medicine.
  • Represent AMA in national and international forums on digital health and AI.
  • Modernize digital health platforms and services to support physicians’ ability to deliver care and strengthen member experience.
  • Champion and advance the Center mission by:

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead and develop high-performing teams across digital health, AI, policy, stakeholder engagement, practice transformation, and technology benchmarks.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, transparency, and continuous learning.
  • Serve as a key member of the AMA executive leadership team, contributing to enterprise-wide strategy and decision-making.
  • Collaborate on cross-unit initiatives involving digital health and AI.

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • M.D. or D.O. required.
  • Minimum 10 years of senior leadership in digital health, AI, or health technology strategy.
  • Proven track record of leading enterprise health care technology transformation and driving responsible adoption of digital health and AI.
  • Deep understanding of clinical practice, physician needs, and health care delivery systems.
  • Demonstrated experience building strategic partnerships across physician, health tech, policy, and regulatory ecosystems.
  • Strong knowledge of health data standards, interoperability, cybersecurity, and compliance frameworks.
  • Visionary thinker with ability to anticipate future trends in digital health and AI.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator who can influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic operator with ability to balance innovation, risk, and execution.
  • Commitment to optimizing the physician experience with technology, patient safety, and ethical use of digital health and AI tools.
