Position Summary
The College of Education is seeking two Extra Help Information Technology Support Associates for the Educational Technology Lab. These positions provide technical support and guidance to faculty members and students engaged in research, including identifying technological deficiencies, addressing ineffective use of technological resources, and advising on solutions. Responsibilities include developing, building, and implementing new methods, processes, and technologies to enhance research and teaching.
These positions also involve curriculum design for certain components of college courses that incorporate technology in education, and assisting faculty members in training student teachers to improve their proficiency in using technology effectively in the classroom.
Additionally, these roles support the College's community outreach initiatives, aimed at promoting STEM-related careers to middle and high school students in underserved communities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides hardware and software support (remote and onsite), including operating system support (Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook) for desktop computers, mobile, handheld devices, conference rooms and printers for COE faculty, staff and various Office support staff members.
- Provides installation, configuration, repair, and maintenance support for college provided computers and end-user devices. Performs routine preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and standard system checks to ensure reliable and secure operation.
- Assists with managing user and computer accounts in Active Directory, including adding, modifying, and removing accounts, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Resolves tickets submitted by staff by identifying and addressing routine technical and process-related issues to support continuity of operations.
- Ensures proper day-to-day operation and maintenance of the ETL computer lab.
- STEM and environmental science projects for self-sustained energy and agriculture; particularly as they pertain to supporting student teachers and COE instructors.
- Supports off-campus outreach sites that are collaborating with COE projects with technology needs.
- A successful candidate in this position will require preparing camp lessons, camp logistics, and show some level of expertise in majority the of the topics presented. Support student teachers in developing science and technology curriculum activities for application in their classrooms.
- Assists in preparation of summer camp logistics, lesson plans based on working knowledge of STEM concepts such as computer programming, basic electricity, mechanical engineering, robotics, 3D printing / model design, computer animation design. Construction of lab models to teach aquaponics, hydroponics and vermicomposting
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any one or any combination totaling one (1) year (12 months) from the following categories:
- College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
- Work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
- Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, natural sciences, education or equivalent. with experience in IT and/or Sciences
- IT certifications such as; CompTIA A+. Microsoft MCSA or equivalent
- 1 year of experience on STEM and environmental science and computers teaching with K-12 students
- Experience with Exchange/Outlook administration/troubleshooting, mobile and handheld device configuration with Exchange, RT ticket tracking system
- Server administration, remote desktop support, active directory administration
- Database systems such as MySQL, FileMaker Pro
- Knowledge of the systems and operations used within the areas and departments in an academic setting, including report writing and documentation. Experience in support student teachers in developing science and technology curriculum activities for application in their classrooms is a plus.
- Experience in instructional and curriculum design related to technology a plus.
- Experience in running camps and school activities is a plus.
- Critical thinking, ability to work both independently and as part of a team, excellent organizational skills, a demonstrable ability to manage multiple priorities. Knowledge in STEM concepts such as computer programming, basic electricity, mechanical engineering, robotics, 3D printing/ model design, laser cutting, computer animation design a plus.
- Knowledge of environmental science concepts, such as aquaponics, hydroponics and vermicomposting, a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to effectively communicate and professionally interact with all staff levels; ability to effectively communicate with other colleagues, supervisors, administrative staff, and other IT users
