Position Summary
The Extra Help Athletic Communications Associate supports UIC Athletics' communications efforts by creating and distributing engaging content, managing social media channels, assisting with press releases and helping promote events and programs pertaining to UIC Athletics and its 18 varsity sports programs. This role requires strong writing, digital and organizational skills, with a focus on storytelling and social media that highlights student-athletes and the UIC Athletics brand.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with social media content creation and posting across platforms for select sports.
- Draft press releases, media advisories and other communications materials.
- Support event promotions, game day coverage and internal communications.
- Help maintain UIC Athletics’ brand consistency across all messaging.
- Collaborate with creative services teams on campaigns and projects pertaining to select sports.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, sports communications, sports marketing, sports management, public relations, communications, English, or a related field.
- One (1) year (12 months) of professional experience working in the athletic communications/sports information field.
- Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required. Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
