General Responsibilities
· Team Members are responsible for supporting the Hospitality Team in daily operations, including taking orders, making food and beverages, restocking, and cleaning both the front and back of the house. Team Members will work in the Café, Booster Juice, or the kitchen grill at the Student Association Oshawa campus.
Organizational Structure
· Team Members directly report to the Operations Manager and are primarily supervised by the Business Services and Lounge Operations Manager. They will also work in tandem with the Assistant Lead Hand and Kitchen Supervisor.
Specific Responsibilities
The Hospitality Team Member position covers a wide variety of responsibilities in the daily operations of the DCSA facilities and may be modified by management as needed. Key responsibilities include:
· Greet and interact with all customers.
· Receive in-person and online orders via POS and other future platforms.
· Assist customers with the take-out process and take payments.
· Provide a friendly, welcoming experience to all customers and teammates.
· Foster positive relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
· Prepare and sell beverages, coffee, tea, and other food and merchandise.
· Provide the best knowledge of our products to all customers, including ingredients, and pay special attention to customers with food allergies.
· Anticipate customer and store needs by constantly evaluating the environment and customers for cues.
Beverage Responsibilities
· Make and mix various coffee drinks, teas, and smoothies quickly and accurately.
· Stock the counter, workstation, and fridges.
· Ensure all working stations and the bar are clean and organized at all times.
· Prep, make, and serve various beverages according to specification cookbooks.
· Prepare brewed coffee, tea, smoothies, and other beverages with a focus on quality and consistency.
Food Service Responsibilities
· Perform routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients for meal preparation.
· Prepare and measure ingredients.
· Prepare and present hot and cold food items to operational standards.
· Understand and comply with local food safety regulations.
· Maintain an orderly and rotated stock system (FIFO).
· Offer solutions to customers with allergies and dietary restrictions.
· Minimize waste.
· Keep the workstation clean and tidy according to nutrition and sanitation guidelines.
· Perform any other tasks required for the smooth running of operations.
· Provide quality beverages and food products consistently by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards and following health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
Operational Responsibilities
· Use initiative to complete all daily and weekly checklists.
· Communicate with managers as needed regarding equipment and process needs.
· Be responsible for the opening and closing protocols of the shift.
· Follow and adhere to all policies and procedures laid out by the DCSA Hospitality Handbook.
· Attend training sessions and team meetings.
· Stock shelves and assist with inventory when required.
· Follow standard operational procedures, including cash handling, safety, and security.
Job Qualifications
· This is a student position; you must be a full-time Durham College student during the 2025-2026 academic year.
· Foodsafe certification and WHMIS.
· Punctual, organized, and focused on providing a positive guest experience.
· Competency in a POS system.
· Able to take initiative and work unsupervised.
· Team-oriented.
· Able to multitask, problem-solve, and make effective decisions when necessary.
· Great listening and communication skills, along with a friendly disposition.
· Demonstrates personal integrity and honesty.
· Responsible and professional.
· Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary (early/late shifts as required).
Learning Outcomes
· Learn customer service skills, problem-solving, and retail computer software.
· Acquire new skills in food prep, food safety, and food service equipment operation.
· Develop food service and presentation skills through catering and day-to-day operations of food shop outlets.
· Build team-building, cooperation, and collaboration skills with fellow student employees.
