Role Statement
The Intermediate Accountant will be responsible for a range of tasks to help their Business Services team deliver timely service to internal and external stakeholders. The core focus is to build technical capability through preparing financial statements and tax returns, contribute to tax planning and advisory work, and begin managing workflow and client relationships with moderate oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Client Work & Technical Delivery
- Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for individuals, companies and trusts.
- Complete Business Activity Statements (BAS), Instalment Activity Statements (IAS), and other compliance obligations.
- Assist in developing tax strategies and preparing tax planning documents for client groups.
- Contribute to the preparation of tax advice and business advisory projects.
- Liaise with the ATO regarding client matters and compliance issues.
- Support other accounting responsibilities as required.
Client Communication & Engagement
- Prepare client communications regarding queries and information gathering.
- Attend meetings as needed to support relationship management.
Team Collaboration & Support
- Train junior team members in accounting processes, software use, and task responsibilities.
- Share knowledge and assist peers with technical queries and task execution.
Productivity
- Manage personal workflow with some oversight, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Communicate progress and flag issues early to support workflow efficiency.
- Assist in preparing fees for client work, under direction of Manager.
Professional Development
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge through training, webinars, and independent research.
- Continue developing technical knowledge and practical understanding of accounting standards and tax legislation, while exploring opportunities for further professional growth.
Skills & Experience
- Relevant bachelor’s degree with focus in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
- At least 1 years’ experience in public practice accounting.
- Knowledge of Australian Tax legislation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (particularly Excel).
- Experience with accounting software (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, etc.).
