Overview

***This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP***

The Veterinary Technician supports veterinary operations by providing clinical, technical, and laboratory assistance to licensed Veterinarians. This role includes performing animal care procedures, assisting in diagnostics, administering medications, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with biosecurity, safety, and regulatory standards in deployed or garrison environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians in performing diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical procedures.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments under veterinarian supervision.
  • Monitor animal health, behavior, and recovery, documenting observations accurately.
  • Maintain clinical, laboratory, and medical equipment; ensure proper sterilization and readiness.
  • Support preventive care programs, including vaccination, parasite control, and biosecurity measures.
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records, reports, and logs per regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with veterinary and operational teams to ensure continuity of animal care.
  • Support field, deployed, or austere veterinary operations as required.
  • Adhere to all safety, infection control, and animal handling policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
  • Education:
  • Completion of a two-year AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technician program.
  • Must maintain current license, credentials, certification, or registration in at least one U.S. state.
  • Experience :
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a Veterinary Technician.
  • Licensure / Registration:
  • Active, unrestricted Veterinary Technician license, credential, or certification in at least one U.S. state.
  • Working Conditions:
  • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months).
  • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
