General Manager
Job description
The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and operational direction of Miller Creek Lawn & Landscape. This role oversees the Director of Operations, Director of Sales, and Director of Finance, ensuring all departments are aligned with the company’s vision, mission, profitability targets, safety standards, and long-term growth objectives.
The General Manager holds full P&L responsibility and serves as the primary integrator of people, processes, and performance across the organization. This position ensures leadership alignment, operational excellence, financial discipline, cultural consistency, and sustainable growth.
This role is strategic, performance-driven, financially accountable, and people-focused.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in landscaping, construction, or related field
- 5+ years in senior executive leadership (multi-department oversight)
- Proven experience managing senior leaders (managing managers)
- Strong financial acumen with direct P&L responsibility
- Demonstrated ability to scale operations and build high-performing teams
- Experience in seasonal or capacity-driven business environments preferred
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and accountability skills
- Strong understanding of operational efficiency, labor management, and revenue strategy
- Valid Driver’s License (Required)
- MN DOT Medical Card (Required)

Executive Leadership & Vision Alignment
- Align company leadership with Miller Creek’s vision, mission, and core values
- Drive execution of long-term strategic initiatives
- Ensure departmental goals align with overall company objectives
- Lead weekly, monthly & annual strategic planning sessions/meetings
- Establish and maintain company-wide performance standards
- Foster a unified leadership culture focused on accountability and growth
- Act as the primary integrator between Sales, Operations, and Finance
Direct Leadership & Team Oversight
- Directly guide & oversee:
- Director of Operations
- Director of Sales
- Director of Finance & Administration
- Ensure all processes & systems are followed by directors & their direct reports
- Conduct structured, reoccurring, 1-on-1 meetings with directors
- Hold directors accountable to measurable KPIs and performance metrics
- Hold directors accountable to company standards in all facets
- Ensure cross-department alignment and communication
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership development where needed
- Make final hiring and termination decisions for management & executive-level roles
Profit & Loss (P&L) Responsibility
- Hold full company P&L responsibility
- Ensure revenue targets and margin goals are met
- Oversee budget creation and approval processes
- Review monthly financial statements and KPI dashboards & report to the owner
- Identify profitability risks and implement corrective actions
- Maintain accountability for net profit margin targets
- Review major capital expenditures and financial commitments
- Ensure sustainable liquidity and financial stability
Operational & Capacity Oversight Ensure all divisions operate at optimal production capacity
- Monitor labor efficiency, fleet utilization, and scheduling effectiveness
- Identify bottlenecks and remove operational barriers
- Support scaling initiatives while maintaining quality standards
- Ensure operational systems support long-term growth
Sales & Revenue Performance
- Ensure revenue growth aligns with annual targets
- Oversee pricing integrity and margin protection
- Support strategic sales planning and market expansion
- Monitor retention, cross-selling, and client satisfaction metrics
- Ensure strong alignment between sales commitments and operational capacity
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Maintain accountability for company-wide safety standards
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and industry regulations
- Reinforce safety culture across all departments
- Conduct periodic executive-level field observations
- Ensure quality standards are consistent across divisions
Leadership Development & Culture
- Build and maintain a strong leadership pipeline
- Maintain internal advancement standards
- Ensure consistent accountability systems across departments
- Foster a culture of ownership, professionalism, and high performance
- Support leadership training and succession planning
Cross-Department Alignment
- Ensure seamless transitions between Sales, Operations, Finance, and Fleet
- Improve company-wide communication structures
- Support company-wide initiatives and performance reviews
- Align team through strategic coordination of events and meetings
Hiring, Onboarding & Workforce Management
- Assist in hiring, onboard, training, and terminating:
- Director-level leaders
- Senior management roles
- Ensure leadership performance review systems are followed
- Maintain high cultural and performance standards
- Make final termination decisions when company standards are not met
Job Type
- Full-time 40+ hour/week
Salary
- $100-120K/yr
Incentives
- 5% of base salary once 15% net profit margin is hit
- 10% of base salary once 20% net profit margin is hit

Schedule
- This position typically works 40+ hours per week. Overtime and extended hours may be required based on seasonal demands, weather conditions, project schedules, and business needs.
